October 31, 2024 was my last day employed at the University of Alberta. After over 40 years of research and teaching in academia, it was time for a change. This wasn't retirement; I was reinventing myself, or "reinventment". Today I have reinvented myself as an entrepreneur, having co-founded Synsira Software Solutions Inc. We built an AI application for your desktop that analyzes your desktop data in a private, accurate, safe and secure way. Check it out at synsira.com. Download the free or pro version and give it a try.
This will be my final blog post here at Academic (a)Musings. However, I will continue to blog through my company. If you are interested in my perspectives on AI, here is my latest post. You can see more posts here.
Thank you for reading my University of Alberta blog. I appreciated the many emails I received over the years from the readership.
Finally, FYI a few weeks ago my introductory book on AI was published. The Games that Computers (and Humans) Play. A Non-Technical Introduction to Artificial Intelligence was a multi-year effort to explain the core principles in AI in a way that would engage a general audience. It should come as no surprise that many of the examples use games to illustrate the concepts. Check it out here.
p.s. I was not involved in setting the price of the book.
